Vista Blue Screen Of Death (BSOD) (not meant to be a poll)

Got a bit of a weird problem going on with one of my mates PC's, he bought it two days ago and has killed it already (Not a tech-head).

A bit of background info:

  1. Installed WoW, the patch created problems, seemingly corrupted a WoW file,
  2. Was unable to uninstall WoW (some file was missing)
  3. Managed to uninstall it
  4. Did a system restore
  5. Realised the restore did nothing
  6. Not quite sure what he did next, possible system restore, system recovery. (God knows)

The current BSOD is killing me! I am unable to:

  • Boot into windows
  • System Restore
  • System recovery
  • Recover
  • Boot into Safe mode
The error mesage is as follows:

I'm sorry if I havent given enough information, I have only just been told all this.

Being a self-confessed nerd and a computer programmer myself, I have no idea how he ruined a lovely laptop so fast!

Hello Gingbeard,
Do you have a recovery disc or a Vista disc ?, I'm thinking as you cant get into safe mode you could try a startup repair from the Recovery/Vista disc, if that fails then a re-install may be your only option, (if it will take one), could turn out to be the worlds most expensive paper weight.

If you can open up safe mode with command prompt, run sfc /scannow at the prompt. How did he manage to break it so fast?:confused: If not, a re-install would probably be the easiest.

The STOP code is 0x0000008E: KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED, has he installed any drivers or new antivirus apps? Is there any important data to be backed up?

I'd take it back to the shop. There is a BSOD guide in my sig if you need it for future reference (most likely).
