Trying to install Vista Home Premium 32-bit on my wife's machine. It crashed and failed during Windows Recovery, then failed during fresh install. Got XP installed once, then failed during Vista install again.
Keeps bombing out on the "Expanding Files" portion of setup consistently around 14% and either hangs (for as much as 45 mins one time before I just turned off), or throws BSOD.
Error now on bsod is BAD_POOL_CALLER and Stop is 0x000000c2 (0x00000007, 0x0000110b, 0x00000001, 0x8676b738)
Prior to this, I got a new HD, this time a 500GB SATA instead of the 320GB SATA it shipped with. Same results. Flipped out the SATA cables, same results. Read my 100th forum post online and saw someone said their CPU was getting too hot and to replace fan and add thermal paste, don't know if I should try that or not. Paste sounds messy.
If anyone can help, it would literally mean the world to my wife and I. It's an emachine that is 3 months out of it's 1-year warranty, and the support at eMachines has not helped at all. So tired from messing with this.
Thanks,
Matt
