Blue screen due to Core Multi-Processing

Hello Experts,



My System configuration is,


CPU : Intel Xeon E5405 (2 Ghz) * 1 No.
Mother Board : S5000 XVN SATA 8 DIM
RAM : 8GB FB DIMM (2 GB * 4)
HDD: 500 GB SATA - Samsung
Graphic Card: Palit 1 GB 9500 Super +

I had lot of issues while installing the Vista x64 Operating System and after a long research, I was able to locate the issue. i.e. I had to disable "Core Multi-Processing" from the BIOS while installing the Operating System. However after successfully installing the Vista Operating System and all the latest services packs/updates when I enabled "Core Multi-Processing" from the BIOS, my system would work for few minutes and then crashes (Does not restart, but just hangs) with a Stop blue screen error stating "A Clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval. Stop: 0x00000101". I just have 1 processor installed on the first slot of the M/B. The issue occurs even if I sit idle and do not perform anything on the computer.


If I disable "Core Multi-Processing", my system works fine with out any issues.


I have even downloaded and installed the latest BIOS updates and drivers for NIC card and sound card but it didn't help.



I do not have any 3rd party hardware devices attached to it. I also do not have any softwares installed on the computer yet. I even tried re-installing the OS couple of time, but it didn't help.


Please help me to resolve this issue or point me in the right direction.

Hi,

I tried installing the hotfix in KB 967170 but it didn't help. I even installed the SP2 for Vista but it didn't help.

Any other advice ?

Once you've discounted the possibility of false positives by installing the KB967170 kernel, continued bugcheck 0x101s unfortunately suggest that the error is real - at least one of your processor cores is sometimes being unresponsive to inter-processor interrupts (IPIs).

If you upload a minidump I'll gladly take a look at it, but I don't expect I'll be able to suggest a "fix".

Sorry, you're on the SP2 beta and the MS symbol server doesn't provide the kernel symbols I'd need to examine that dump. I waited til now in case the release of the Win7 RC led to the symbol server being updated, but no such luck.

I do understand that you're only getting 0x101s when more than one processor is enabled. In fact, by definition stop 0x101s are only possible with more than one processor because there are no IPIs otherwise (no inter-processor communication with just one proc).

Based on the available info, in my opinion the most likely cause for your symptom is a hardware problem :(
