Running Vista 32 2...After trying for about a year to get IE9 to run at least half good, I had to unload it. I got good help from this site and other sites to get IE9 to perform, but a few days have had it. Internet Explorer is history.

Anyone still running IE9 or 8 on Vista, just try Firefox. You can uninstall it if you don't like it. It took me a day or so to get used to all the settings, but it wasn't that hard to set up the browser the way I liked it.

The difference is like night and day compared to IE9. Firefox is FAST and smooth, not jittery scrolling or lag times going from one site to another.

You really have to try it to see the difference.

Believe me, no browser is perfect. Firefox, especially the last two versions, 30 and 31, is very prone to crashing. The Mozilla forums are full of tales of woe and Chrome is no longer the speed demon it used to be.

I prefer Firefox still though as it's easier on the eyes with its skins and it has the best range of extensions of any of them.

It's a pity they never made an IE11 for Vista as it is much better than the earlier versions. I keep IE installed because many processes stilll rely on IE to function behind the scenes regardless of the choice of default browser, and some even rely on it for their GUI.

I am using Pale Moon 24.6.2 (albeit the x64 build, there's an x86 version too). It's based on the ESR build of Firefox (which means no Australis). Set it up with an add-on called FoxE9, and you have the exact look of IE 9 along with better updated page rendering.

I guess I will see how Firefox works out, so far I am very impressed with it. I never thought I would give up on IE. Used it since the old Windows 98SE and ME days.

Yes, Microsoft seems to have IE part of the operating system. I found that out by trying to uninstall it completely, that is a no no. My desktop icons really got messed up. I re-installed IE9 and all is good again.

I did see Pale Moon, but I think I opted for Firefox because Pale Moon seemed like it is brand new and not many downloads yet, so not sure of it's stability. Will check it out.

Right now just can't believe how much better Firefox is than IE9.

I really wish the big 3 would keep shortcuts the same.

Most forum software use alt-S to post a message, even outlook uses it, but FF uses it to open the History, and that screws things up.

I see that Firefox uses the term "Bookmarks" instead of "Favorites" like in IE...I do suppose though they are the same thing... I need more time using FF to really see if I like it better than IE, but so far it's winning hands down.

No it's not the same. Stuff for that is stored in FF's Bookmarks folder only. If you want a regular book marker for FF you need the Deskcut Add-on.

I like it in firefox addons. Very handy thing and very helpful not worked with a proxy server and other things. I myself had only used the Opera browser but then I recommend firefox, used a couple of times already accustomed to its settings. I recommend it to everybody

I tried to use IE9 64-Bit as my main browser but no matter how much i tweaked and customized it, it still ran horribly. I had around 1157 dropped frames on a 1080P YouTube video and with my specs that's just unrealistic to assume it's my system. Google Chrome 64-Bit has been released for Win7, but it also works fine on Vista aswell (you need to find a standalone installer though as the webpage defaults to 32-Bit.

You should NEVER use IE (unless you work for Microsoft or a business that forces you to use IE). Use the more customizable and secure Fire-Fox.

Pale Moon has been around since Firefox 3.x and is far from new. There is a new release of v25 (it's now on 25.01), and it's exceptionally stable. Besides, it has a stable and proven x64 build.

I am no longer a Firefox fan. Like Microsoft with Windows 8x (though I like 8.1 myself), Mozilla is taking to not listening to its customer base, and forcing that Australis crap on its users.

This statement is a bit strong. You make it sound like using IE is instant death.

I have a triple-boot PC, vista on one drive, W7 on the other two (one of which is the original drive which I keep running in case there's something on it I need). On the vista drive, I am using IE9, and it works fine. but on the two W7 drives, I have to use Firefox, or I'll have display driver failures. no idea why, tried a million things but no luck. Fortunately, Firefox does work fine for those drives. The latest version even kind of looks like IE. Very fast and smooth. I'll keep IE9 on the vista drive as long as it's working, just to be old school.

As some background processes still use it, I would make sure you have IE11 installed on W7 (& W8/8.1 for anyone else reading this). Doesn't matter whether or not you use it, always keep it up to date.

Yes trying to remove it could damage Windows since it is integrated into the api.
