IE9 won't open video files on website

I am using IE9 on a Dell XPS420 Vista SP2 with all updates applied. Since I installed KB979688, IE will not open any movie files - .mpg, .flv, or .mov. I have uninstalled KB979688, deleted entries from the registry, shutdown the computer, then started the computer and installed KB979688. ActiveX filter is off.

I still can not get any video files on websites to start automatically. Any suggestions will be appreciated!

A system restore from before the updates will bring everything back to that date. Change updater to notify, then install all updates except the problem one.

I restored to the earliest date - which should is earlier than when I first noticed the problem. Reapplied all the Microsoft updates detected by Windows Updater. No Joy. I still can not download files using IE9. I do not even get the message to Open or Save the file.

I have a laptop running IE10 and Win7. Every download that I have problems with in IE9/Vista I can download with IE10/Win7. Leads me to believe that the problem is IE9/Vista.

Try to uninstall IE and then install again
