I have Vista 32 and my windows mail spell checker has stopped working. I have tried the selecting different languages fix but it does not work. I get an error message saying 'an error ocurred while the spelling ws being checked'. Any help for a complete non techy appreciated.

Assuming you have Windows Live Essentials, go to Control Panel, Programs and Features and find it. Click on it to uninstall it. Select the Repair option. Does that help?

I don't use Windows Mail but Microsoft has seen fit to make everybody use Windows Live Mail if one has a Windows Live account. Perhaps it's time to install it. I realize that isn't a direct fix for the existing problem but a new install of Windows Live Essentials might make the problem go away.
Elsewise, you might want to try this utility-
