There's an old thread in this forum on the disappearance of the dedicated search box/field in IE9 but it's old (Oct last year) and closed. (Search this forum for ie9 search box)
Although it's a year now I want to bring this up again - the absence of a search field in IE9, in case there's any news on the topic.
BTW, to customise the command-bar and its contents in IE9, Tools on the menu-bar no longer has Customise - you get to it via Tools on the command-bar dropdown (reduncancy, but different 8-| ).
I've found I miss the dedicated search field because I like having the information in front of me so that I can see by simple inspection what it was that I searched for - even Google at times drops the repeated search expressions at the bottom of its results pages.
With the search item always visible I can go to it (Alt+D, Tab, if nec'y) and do it again or modify it, then execute it with Alt-Enter --> new tab.
Now, I have to think over what my search was, create a new tab, perhaps, aim for and click on the small magnifying glass symbol, click on my last search expression, move over to the words (we have wide screens, now) and modify. Hrumpf.
Simplicity in GUI is one thing; ease of use is another.
Any news on tweaking a dedicated search field into IE9?
