windows mail - microsoft word issue

I have a problem with windows mail. Whenever I try to open an internet link sent to me, it opens in MS word. I have a vista x64. Any ideas what the problem is? I've had Windows Vista techs working on it...for 8 months now, and they can't figure anything out!.

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Go to Start / Default Programs / Set Program Access and Computer Defaults / click on Custom and scroll to the default browser section. Check the button next to Internet Explorer and also check the box next to it that says Enable Access to this program. Uncheck any other buttons in that section (especially if one is somehow Microsoft Word). Click OK and reboot. See if that resolves the problem.

If that doesn't work, go to Reset and Fix Broken Windows Vista File Ext and Type Associations (Include EXE, COM, SYS, ZIP, LNK, Folder, Drive) » My Digital Life and click on the icons for htm and html to reset the file associations for those file types (which are what most links are). Once done with both, reboot. See if that resolves the problem.

If that doesn't work, go to Start / Default Programs / Default Programs and check to see if Internet Explorer is listed. If so, click on it and then use the scroll bar to the right and scroll down until you see Choose Defaults for this Program and click on it. Click on the box near the top that says "select all" and then click Save. Once done, reboot and see if that resolves the problem.
