Solved Window Mail Errors

I am currently recieving this error. I have used windows mail for quite a while and all of sudden got this error. I have search and searched the internet and have done everything possible to try to fix it. I have even uninstalled Norton to make sure it wasnt blocking my email. Here is the error:

The host 'pop.gmail.com' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly.
Account: 'pop.gmail.com', Server: 'pop.gmail.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D



I could use any suggestions. Thanks!

You can't receive.
Can you send ?
Send a test message to yourself using same gmail account. What do you get ?

I can not send either the error I recieve is:

Subject 'Fw: Pumpkin Patch #1', Account: 'pop.gmail.com', Server: 'smtp.gmail.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D

Question :
You said you have been using WM for a while, but were you using gmail all the time ?
Is this gamil account a BRAND new account ?
This qustion is crucial. Please answer.

No gmail is not new it is the one i have been using with windows mail for a while. I can tell you what i have done so far as to help as well.


I checked everywhere on the ionternet for ideas. I have removed the gmail account from my Windows mail and re added it multiple times following the directions on the gmail website. Same error since the very first error i got.

I have contacted Norton to make sure they were not blocking my email and they turned off my fire wall ( and after each step i treid to send and recieve adn got the same errors) , uninstalled norton, and reinstalled norton.

I hope this information helps let me know what else you need.

Bear with me. Don't say " but I have done that many times already !" ........

Remove your gamil account > reconfigure your gmail account with the same settings EXCEPT....
In General tab, where you are asked to enter your e-mail address, enter a FAKE one. Such as ...... [email protected]
Then proceed to finish the rest of the settings.
When done, and WM will say you are done, go back to General tab, and erase the fake address, enter the real address.
Trust me, that's the only way WM will accept your gmail account.
Now that done, send a test message to yourself.

FYI I wll tyr anything again even if I have done it before so no worries about.

I have done what you said and the following errors are still there. I will repost them so you can see if anything has changed with in the errors. I didnt notice anything change but I could sure miss something.

Sending:

I 'd to know for sure.
Did you .......
1. remove the account
2. re-configure the account
3. give a fake address
4. after WM said you were done, enter the real address.
I mean did you start from scratch ?

I dont mind doing it again and clicking send/recieve and sending you the error with the fake email in it either. I really want this fixed and will try just about anything. I do have to go in and change the ports as well after setting up according to gmails website....

The only alternative is for you to switch to Windows Live Mail.
In case you don't know, Microsoft has stopped supporting WM for quite a while.
Windows Live Mail ( WLMail ) is supposed to replace WM.
You don't have to give up WM. WLMail will co-exist with WM. You do have to choose WLMail as default mail client instead of WM.
All settings and data such as emails, contacts etc from WM will be automatically transferred to WLMail when you install WLMail.

I downloaded Windows mail live. It imported all the information from windows mail exactly how I had it and it works great. No errors. So it is something wrong with Windows mail. I am now using Windows mail live. Its just frustrating that what I have been using no longer works for no apparent reason. I just wanted to up date everyone to let them know that there was no resolutoin to windows mail but Windows mail live works great. Thanks so much for you help DJCH129.
