Ie8 dwnld/dialog window problem

Hi to everyone who reads this.

I have a small problem regarding IE8.
When I dwnld a file I can specify the pad to were the file must be placed, then the actual dwnld starts, and afterwards I can choose between "Run" or "Open Folder".

Then I normally choose for Open Folder, and thats when my problem occurs.
What happens is; when I click the Open Folder button the dialoog window closes and nothing happens. It's supposed to open the folder I selected, but it doesn't.

Does anyone have a bright idea on how solve this issue?

One possibilty is that you do not have permission

I just ran as admin and dwnlded a file, saved it to my D partition and then I clicked on Open Folder, and that dialog window closed and nothing happend.
In normal circumstances the destination folder that I just selected should open...

In that dialog window I also have a Run button and this one works normal.

You suggested that I should enable Everyone in the Security section of the Properties of my destination folder, but I'm not connected to any Network.
I'm just a single user directly connected to the Internet.

I also added a Printscreen of that window, it's in Dutch, but I placed my cursor on the button that fails to work.

If you are the only user, be sure that you have full permissions.
If that is not sufficient, see if it works with this hidden administrator

Finally try in safe mode. I am sure that there is a piece to the puzzle that I am not aware of this should not be a problem

Are you sure of the safety of these files? Maybe they have a virus or malware and security is protecting your computer.

I granted myself (adminstrator account) and the built-in admin full access, ran IE8 as admin, but the problem stays the same though.

I don't think it has something to do with admin privileges or anything like that.
Maybe there is a registry setting not working very well, because the Run button works and the Open Folder doesn't.

I've dwnlded Glary Utilities from Cnet, so don't think there's a security issue.
I use Kaspersky, Defender and MalwareBytes and I don't get any warnings...

Try in safe mode, if sure of its safety

I have no idea, unless what you are doing is not the same format as vista or not compatible with windows.

Why shouldn't it be compatible?
I use IE8 on a HP Desktop with Vista Home Premium 64 bit.
If I should have compatibility issues I wouldn't be able Run the dwnlded file.
My guess is that the button "Open Folder" is broke.

I assume you are using IE7 or IE8 (nevermind, I see you posted using IE8). Does this problem occur if you choose to download to your desktop (or elsewhere on C: drive) instead of D: Drive or only when using D: drive? Do you have a flash drive? If so, try downloading to that and see if the problem occurs there as well? I'm trying to figure out if the problem is isolated to only when you use D: drive as that may help identify the cause and lead us to options to solve the problem. Also, if it works in these other locations, then that suggests the button may be fine (but we should still check it). If it works in these other locations, I wonder if there is an issue at all with IE - it then does sound like permissions or possibly something about the D: Drive device driver or something we haven't figured out yet - but let's check out IE to rule that out and then we can examine or re-examine some of the other options. Please post what happened when you tried the above (and below) options in your next reply.

Hopefully, one of these procedures will resolve your problems with IE. If not, I would suggest uninstalling IE8, downloading a fresh copy from the Microsoft site (use their site, not some 3rd party download site), and then re-installing IE8 to see if that helps. If not, the issue almost certainly isn't with IE8 but with something else - but I'm not sure what. Post back and we'll seek an answer.

Then I uninstalled IE8 and now my problems are gone.

I'm glad the final recommendation helped and sorry it took going through all the rest to get to that point. It sounds like you don't intend to try to re-install IE8. That of course is entirely up to you.

It's more a matter of features and preferences than security (IE7 still receives security updates). Personally, I'd re-install IE8 as I consider it a better product. Hopefully the problem will not return. If it does, just uninstall it again and post back and we'll try to find some way to get IE8 to work without that problem.

The choice is really yours.

I'm back again, with the same complaint though.
I uninstalled IE8 and ran a few days with IE7 without having that problem.
Then I decided to install the IE8 Update, and now I can't open my download Folder after the dwnld is done in the Save As dialogue window.

Is someone still following this topic?

I'm here. If it works fine with IE7, then it isn't a permissions issue or a connection issue or a problem with the drive or with the network setup and it almost certainly isn't malware either - in any of those cases I'd expect the same problem to occur in IE7. There's something about YOUR situation that is causing IE8 to malfunction in this way and I honestly don't know what it might be. If you've run through the above procedures (try the no add-ons mode again to be sure that's ruled out since you re-installed), then I'm quite perplexed as with a fresh IE8 installation, there's very little else to test. If this were a bug in the program, we would be swamped with people complaining about it, but that isn't happening - you seem to be the only one reporting this problem (and I've checked other forums as well and don't see a wave of problems like this anywhere). I can't accept that two separate downloads of IE8 (the original and this new one) were defective in precisely the same way, so I rule out a bad download.

The fact that it works with IE7 also suggests it isn't likely to be an issue with Vista (though the two versions are different and that's possible, but it seems more like an IE problem than a Vista problem). The only way to test that is a bit long and time-consuming as we don't know where exactly in Vista to look and again the fact that it worked in IE7 (and that IE8 has just been re-installed) rules out many of the Vista tests as well.

Unless someone else posts a better suggestion, I recommend you go back to IE7 again and stick with it until IE9 is officially released (which should be soon as the beta is already available - but I advise against you trying the beta as it has even caused problems for some of our best and most experienced members) and then bypass IE8 and upgrade directly to IE9 from IE7. Hopefully with IE9 you won't have the same problem. I'm sorry I have nothing better to offer, but frankly I'm stumped by the problem.

I hope someone else replies with a better suggestion that identifies the cause and allows you to continue to use IE8 and resolves the dialog box problem.
