Help! Windows Live Email Has Been Hijacked

My Windows Live email client has apparently been hijacked because it's sending out commercial messages from my email address. I've tried 2 anti virus scans:
Malwarebytes Free Virus Scanner and
TrendMicro http://us.trendmicro.com/us/home/
and they did find a couple of viruses and worms, (which were eliminated, of course), but that didn't solve the email problem. I really don't want to change emails if I don't absolutely have to, so anyone out there have any suggestions?

And by the way, even if I do change emails, won't the old, virused email client still continue to send out these commercial emails in my name? Is there a way to close down my Windows Live Email?

Sorry that you are having problems. The first thing that I would try is to go to the website of my email provider and change the password. See if that helps. Keep us posted. There arre many members here, one will surely have an idea. I will keep you in mind, also.

Lets try to outsmart them. Change passwords using a different computer. They may be able to acertain the new password, if done from your infected computer.
Another computer in your house or one in library would be a good choice.Dont't use networked computers.

Dont change the password in Live Mail. You cannot use it anymore, but get thunderbird or something. I think problem solved. Tell me what you think

Still no joy! This is so frustrating because I really don't want to change email clients unless I absolutely have to. I've changed password and secret question/answer, but still am being hijacked. I looked on line for answers, but unfortunately, even Microsoft doesn't provide a fix. Over the weekend I ran the Microsoft Malicious Remover Tool, but that didn't help either. (And I had previously run Malwarebytes and Trend Micro scans --- neither helped.)

And need to ask this question again: Even if I'm forced to change emails, how can I permanently shut down/close/discard/disable the old Windows Live Mail email site, so that it doesn't keep sending out emails, even if I'm no longer using it?

There is one scenario that you have overlooked. Your email address is posssibly used to send out these emails and not your actual email. If you know about this mail because of the returns to your address, this is the reason

Yes, I think you're right Rich. In that case, there isn't anything I can do, is there?

No, someone is using your address. To protect yourself, close the account. If anything comes of this you can prove it was not you.

Hi Rich, thanks so much for the information. There are some good tips in there. When I was hacked a few months ago (for the 2nd time, no less) it was getting very serious. I didn't want to change my email for a number of reasons --- and even if I did that, the hacker would still be able to use my email address to keep sending out infected emails anyway --- so I had to take whatever steps I could to stop the hacking.

First I changed my password and secret question, as you suggested, but that didn't help. What did help though was to delete all of the names + addresses in my contact list. No contact list, no way of infecting the contact list. I did that, and although it's a pain in the a$$ to have to go to my MS Word page (on which I copied my contact list) to look up a contact's address if I need to send an email --- it's better than having to change my email address with all the vendors who have it and all of the websites where I routinely use it. (And I can get a lot of the email addresses I need from my inbox list, so it's not so terrible.)

Oh, by the way, another thing I started doing, that is very simple, but I had never bothered to do it before, is that EVERY time I leave my email website, instead of just closing the screen, I take the time to actually log off. I think that being permanently logged on leaves you very open (literally and figuratively) to being hacked, whereas if your email url is officially closed, maybe, at least some of the hacking technology can't hack the site.
