I cannot open certain documents. It says set associations in the control panel but I can't find the place

Do you have Microsoft Word installed, and if so what version (ie 2007, 2003) Else, if you don't use the free Open Office, or if you don't know what this is, you probably want the free Microsoft Office Viewer. Free Word viewer: Download details: Word Viewer
If, however, you know you have a problem with this file extension, rather than the installed programs, do tell me so I can help you. The Control Panel page you are looking for is:
Start Orb > Control Panel > Classic View on left hand pane > Default Programs > Associate a File Type or Protocol with a Program
however, if you tell me, we can offer you better, maybe registry help.

I down loaded the word viewer but I still can't open this file. very frustrating.

Hello,
Please make sure the association is correct, so go to the Control Panel window I explained in my previous post. Now scroll down to the .doc format and double click on it. Click browse and navigate to:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\WordView.exe and click OK. See if the problem is resolved.
