I just downloaded Firefox version 3.6 for 64-bit computers yesterday and have been trying it out, and it's FAST! Ludicrous speed has gotten even more ludicrous! There's still no Java/Flash players of course, but otherwise this puppy GOES.
When you uninstall your prior Mozilla just keep the personal files and stuff (there's a check box to uncheck). All my auto-logins came back and everything's peachy. Custom installation is a snap and of course no reboot is required. Do the custom installation so that it puts the program in the right folder; mine was tempted to install to Program Files (x86) for some reason.
Otherwise, no complaints so far! This is everything in a browser I need!
Your AddOns and all that work though eh? Might be cool to try it. Do they make a portable? I tried loading the FF portable 32 bit in a ram disk. It did actually work, but it was too much hassle saving and loading the ram disk image. So I just put it on my external USB for times when the primary HD is super busy and I don't want to wait for FF to load up.
edit: I couldn't resist trying it. Running it now. So far so good.
Any about:config speed tweaks? Or it just runs out of the box?
edit: I'm trying the 3.7Pre 64 bit Minefield now. It seems the same except page graphics seem to update all at once instead of flowing on. It may be an optical illusion but it seems faster when the page snaps up all at once.
Yes, it seems to take less time from page load to page display.
On a side note, I'm also a forum member of ravelinks and when you load any forum page with the old Shiretoko 3.5 the page would load, display, then the browser would black-out "blink" for a hundredth of a second, and then it would go back to display. This was annoying; sometimes I would surf with IE 32 just to not have to see it.
good luck with it. I have been running it for some time. Now it really sucks can not even pop up. Well not load it was load really slow I got to there forum to get some help. After two days I just load chrome It will not even uninstall.
btw if you really want fast and have lots of ram, google how to run Firefox 3.6 Portable in a ramdisk. It screams!! I'm using 128 MB of ram and I can run Firefox 3.6 portable with several AddOns and a 32 MB disk cache in the ram disk and still have about 20 MB of "disk space" left over.
