My sys is: gateway 64bit vista home premium w/sp2.
I have to use the 32bit IE8 to install updates!
All updates except KB974455 installed. This is called a critical update for IE8. I cannot install this update.
My virus checker-NOD32-will not run unless this is installed.
I have had this problem since the 16th when I contacted Microsoft. They have requested that I perform an "In-Place upgrade". I can't do this because this computer came with the OS installed and no DVD or CD. I called Gateway and they only provide a "recovery DVD" set that will remove and reinstall the original install. I don't want that. I have unplugged all of the 4 external HDs.
I have run:
Run System Update Readiness Tool;
sfc /scannow;
syscheck;
The results of the scannow show errors and cannot repair in the "CheckSur log" which I have sent to Microsoft.
I don't know how to make a startup DVD using this "corrupted system file" OS.
My contact with Microsoft only answers during the night (maybe in China or India)
and she is off for the weekend.
Any suggestions on how to obtain the vista Home Premium DVD for this computer?
