Can't connect to internet even tho there are no connection problems

HELP!! I can't get onto the internet with my laptop. Get the message IE cannot display webpage. I have diagnosed connection problems, and there aren't any. I have tried both wireless and ethernet networks. My desktop is working just fine :confused:. I have been working on this for 4 days now, and have not come up with a solution. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Go into IE tools internet options connections lan settings and uncheck automatically detect settings

check out some other stuff. see if you can ping your gateway or modem. what you should also try is updating your network drivers

I can ping both, and I updated all drivers. But if i can't get online, would they actually be updated?

I have a motorola 3347 router through qwest. My desktop is main comp, connected by ethernet. My laptop (problem comp) is wireless. I have gone to qwest help site and ran diagnostics. It says IP failed. I tried disabling wireless on laptop and connecting it to ethernet, but the problem is same. Everything I have done checks out except for the IP.

uninstall your drivers for your network adapter and then reinstall (just for your ethernet) plug back in, see if that helps. Also reset the modem

Do you connect to the router via IP, or name (ie 192.158.1.1, or my router?) If you go to search type cmd> then ipconfig /all and take a screen shot and upload it to us

You can also try ipconfig /flushdns, enter, then ipconfig /renew, enter

Hi, still cant get laptop to connect, so can't send screenshots. I have tried everything. I went to my laptops manufacturers website on this comp today and downloaded all updates for it on disc and downloaded them on laptop. That didnt help. I ran diagnostics through qwests website again and all checks out now. I have pinged my ip address in cmd and get 4 out of 4 replys. I can connect to Yahoo messenger even, but still can not get IE or Firefox to work. I am sooooooooo confused:confused:.. What am I missing? Appreciate you responding with ideas. Makes me feel like I'm not in this alone. :). I'm still so frustrated I want to cry or through something.

just ran the cmd; ipconfig/flushdns and the ipconfig/renew and got the following information:

Successfully flushed DNS Resolver Cache.

Windows IP Configuration
An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection: unable to contack your DHCP server
An error occurred whil releasing interface loopbacik Pseudo-Interface 1 : the system cannot find the file specified.

Silly question: Is the WLAN turned on. All most all laptops have a manual button some where to turn it on.

Have ran set up a network connection? Under manage network connections right click LAN connection or in your case the wireless connection and select properties and make sure your IPv4, IPv6, LLTP discovery mapper/responder are all checked.

Did you try this? It was from Microsoft support when I had the same problem because the winsock corrupted


1.Click the Windows Start button.

2. Type Cmd in the Start Search text box and press Ctrl-Shift-Enter (keyboard shortcut to run Command Prompt as Administrator). Click Continue to allow elevation request.

3. Type netsh winsock reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.

4. Type netsh int ipv4 reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.

5. If you use ipv6, type netsh int ipv6 reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.

Note: you may need to run Network Diagnostics afterwards to "repair" your connection after this.
