Problems with certain types of links not loading

I just got a new laptop with vista home premium, 32 bit, and i initially thought a link not working was the site, it was trying to add on a firefox extention and the link would show a... # at the end of it when i would hover my mouse over the link to see what it says...so it wouldnt load

then my daughter was on facebook today and trying to hit the "share" button and it wont share the message and when i looked at the link, it again had the # on it. so not sure why this is happening.
