internet explorer and favorites

everytime i click on the favourates it has folders on the bottom is there a way to stop them showing on the drop down menue of favourates of ie?

they get in the way

Are you refrring to the default links folders in Favorites? If so, you can go into Organize Favorites and delete them.

thanks i tried that but the folders refuse to delete

Could you post a screenshot of this to help see what folders you mean better?

You may be able to delete the folders directly from the C:\Users\(user name)\Favorites folder.

here is a picture but when i click favourates in ie right click and delete them they re apear sometimes just one of them and other times 4 or 5 of the folders they just get in the way i find

I might be having the same problem and came here to see if anyone else figured it out yet. In IE7 when you clicked "add to favorites" it went into your favorites but now with IE8 the only option you have to add it to the favorites bar which I don't have up. When I do add one to the favorites bar it creates the bar at top of browser and then I just move it from that folder to where the rest of my links are and then I have to reselect the bar to not show again.

I have never been a fan of any toolbars and have seen people with 3 inches of tool bars at the top of their browser and it begins to leave little room to view web pages and this makes no sense to me. I am not sure why they changed the way favorites were added and all it does is create more crap at top of browser and then all the steps to move the link to where it should be in the default favorites.

Edit: Ok if you right click up by the favorites star and select to show "menu" it will give you a favorites option and you have to the option to add to favorites bar or favorites.

i opened the foldere delete and it re apears again.. i thoguht maybe put it as a hidden folder but i have hidden folders set to show ... i dont like having them hidden. maybe edilee that would be ok for you just to set the folders as hidden

In IE8 you don't have to have a Favorites Bar to have an Add to Favorites link. If you're willing to add a Menu Bar you can have both the Add to Favorites and Add to Favorites Bar links when you click on Favorites. True, it's still adding a toolbar, but at least you'd be adding one that served a whole lot of functions rather than just the one function of the Favorites Bar itself.

You can right click on a empty space on the Internet Explorer toolbar area and uncheck Favorites Bar. You will then be able to delete it from Favorites without it coming back until you check the Favorites Bar option again.

yes this does help it seems to have stopped re apearing on the favorites :D thanks a lot

Whenever the Favorites Bar is turned on it will add that folder in Favorites so that anything you add to that folder is also on the Favorites Bar toolbar, and visa versa.
