How do I set Outlook as default mail program in Vista

I have Windows Vista Home premium running on a laptop. i have installed Microsoft office 2000 including Outlook 2000. I have setup an email account in Outlook but it will not check my email. When I go to "set program defaults" for email Outlook does not show up as an option. Can anyone please tell me how to set Outlook as my default mail program?

I set up an email account in Outlook, but as I said Outlook doesn't work. There isn't even a "send/receieve" button on the Outlook toolbar. I went to set program access and defaults and checked "use my current email program". I'm not using email on it at this point. I would guess Windows Mail but as I said I haven't setup any email accounts in Windows Mail . Sorry I don't have a better answer. I do appreciate any help you can give me.

Hi,

This could be compatiblity issue with office 2000 and vista.
Try to install office 2003 and above
