SQL errors, prevents forum responding

Don't know who to turn to with this question. I use the lastestest version of Thunderbird as my email client. and I have just successfully migrated TB from xp to vista. TB was working fine, then when ever I tried to post a response or a question on to TB's support board, I'd get the following: SQL Error [ mysql4 ], Data too long for column, 'poster_ua' at row [1406]. This prevents me from posting tot he TB board. Can anyone help me with this, or if this is the wrong place, whaer can I go to get help?

Hello Flycaster,

A quick search around points this error to the title of the post exceeding the allowed limit. Not sure if it helps at all but you could try reformatting the title of your post to less than 60 Characters

May not be related to your problem - just throwing out ideas

Another thing you could try is to post using Win Mail or another client and see if it's TB issue specifically or not

This must be a TB issue as putting a four letter header in the title, was rejected with the same SQL error. BTW, one was told to letter the TB administrators know about this, via email. I've done so, but haven't heard anything back. Could anyone hazzard an opinion as to what's wrong with TB?

Thanks, Barman, all to no avial. Can anyone give me some help here? Because of this error, I can't get to the Thunderbird forums for help. And, although I have notified the TB administrator about this error, they haven't replied to me.

Thanks, Dwarf, but it didn't work. It's not that I can't get to the forums, it's that once there, my posts and replies are stopped by this sql error (see above). If no one has the answer, perhaps, they could copy my post above and post it on TB Support for me.

I don't know if this is significant or not, but the following is the list of System Requirements. Notice how 64-bit support is NOT mentioned: Mozilla Thunderbird System Requirements | Mozilla Europe
I presume that your version of XP was 32-bit.

Dwarf-Yes, my XP was 32-bit. However, my Vista 64-bit was successfully communicating with the TB forums until I got the SQL error.

Clear your cache and site related cookies. If you are using Firefox follow these instructions.

Tools --> Options --> Advanced --> Network, Clear Now button.

If you are still having problems delete any cookies that have to do with the site. Tools --> Options --> Privacy, Show Cookies button

Thanks for the comeback, Loudnoise. I use Maxthon. I deleted cookies via both Maxthon and Internet Option (IE7), but all to no avail. I tested the effect of the deletions by trying to respond to your post on the TB forum, and still got the SQL error message.

Weird. Do you have any ad blocking software that might be annoyed by something over there? What is your firewall?

Maxthon has a popup blocker, but it never interferred with my posting to TB forums. My Vista firewall is off, but Norton's is on. Once again, the SQL error only appeared after I was successfully communicating on the TB forums. Thanks for sticking with me on this one.

I don't use Norton but does it have any privacy settings?

As N was loaded as a trial basis, I just uninstalled it and installed McA (which was on my XP and caused no TB forum problems). Anyway, after the uninstall and then install, and rebooting, I still get the same SQL error message when I try to post onto the TB forums. Ugghhhh!

Officially at the point of having no clue. Are you willing to try none I.E. based browser? In the spirit of neutrality I won't suggest which one :D .

I just dl'd firefox and went to a TB forum site, logged in, was told login was successful. But when I got tot he forum, I had to login again. Also, I was being asked to copy the code, but there was no code to copy. Bottom line, couldn't even get onto TB forum to post. Didn't even have a chance to see the SQL error, if it was to occur in firefox.
