Having the same problem others had with windows mail. Not getting mail and getting message that mail left in outbox. Tried the download for vista and it opened but would not install as it stated not compatible with my system? To system info and double checked ( yes I am getting that old) and retried the repair. Went to tools and checked mail setting ok. Went to web and check mail at server. Installed Thunderbird as a tempory fix. Any info would be apreciated.
Yep it is hotmail oriented but you can't get any of your pop mail accounts unless you pay for the service! Won't work for me. Have to save up for when the quad x quad processors come out. I will be worth it to speed up my system by 10 nano seconds.
I tried it and it after signing on with my hotmail account and it wouldn't let me without paying extra. Must be different on this side of the pond. Will try again and if I get the same message I will post it here.
You can receive, read, and respond to mail from other e-mail accounts. Some e-mail providers offer POP3 access and let you forward mail to another e-mail address. Contact your e-mail provider to determine whether they offer these features. If you're a paying Windows Live Hotmail user and you have another e-mail account that has POP3 access, you can configure Windows Live Hotmail to receive mail from that POP3 account.
Sign in to the Windows Live Hotmail website with your Windows Live ID (The user name and password that you use to sign in to any Windows Live, MSN, or Office Live sites and services. If you have a Passport Network, Hotmail, or Messenger account, you can use it as your Windows Live ID.) .
In the upper-right corner of the page, click Options, and then click More options.
Under Manage your account, click Send and receive mail from other e-mail accounts.
Click Add an e-mail account.
Enter the e-mail address and password of the e-mail account that you want to send and receive mail from, and then click Next. Windows Live Hotmail provides the recommended settings.
If you're prompted to verify the settings, you must contact your other e-mail provider to verify that the POP settings are correct. After you verify the settings, click Next.
Select the option for your unread messages, and then click Add account.
Click Send verification e-mail.
Sign in to the e-mail account that you added, open the verification e-mail that was sent from your Windows Live Hotmail account, and then click the verification link.
Notes
If you want to add a Gmail account, you must first enable POP access for your Gmail account.
If you want to add a Yahoo! account, you must be a paying Yahoo! user to enable POP access.
Receive mail from non-POP3 accountsWith some e-mail providers, you may be able to forward e-mail to your Windows Live Hotmail account. Not all e-mail providers support this feature. For more information about how to forward e-mail, see the Help documentation for your other e-mail provider.
If you haven't already done so, create a folder to sort the messages into. For more information, see Add, delete, or rename folders.
In the upper-right corner of the page, click Options, and then click More options.
Under Customize your mail, click Automatically sort e-mail into folders.
Click New filter.
Under Step 1:
In the first options box, click To or CC lines.
In the second options box, click contains.
In the text box, type the appropriate e-mail address.
Under Step 2, select the folder that you want to sort the messages into.
Click Save.
Note
Messages that were sent to the other e-mail account as part of a mailing list aren't added to this folder.
Notes
Only some users, including users who have a paid subscription to Windows Live Hotmail, can add a POP3 account to their Windows Live Hotmail account.
Paying Windows Live Hotmail users can add up to four POP3 accounts.
To check a POP3 account for new mail, in the left pane, click Mail, and then, on the toolbar, click POP.
The maximum size of an e-mail message that you can download is 15 MB. Messages that are larger than 15 MB won't be downloaded.
You can download 50 messages at a time. If you have to download more than 50 messages, you must download 50 of them at a time.
Dxx I just received a pop mail email. Must be a difference between a pop and a pop3. You were right. Don't you hate it when your right and trying to help someone and the tell you you are wrong. So Sorrrrrry.
