IP Address Access Password Prompt

Hi, I recently installed Apache, PHP, etc etc into my comp to set up my home computer into a self server to access certain files from outside computers. When I input my IP address into IE, firefox, etc i am prompted by a username and password prompt to gain access to my files. Now I have tried every username password etc trying to figure out what it can be. Just spent 4 hours googling for information about where this info could be stored on my vista 32 comp. Anyone able to help me with information about where i would go in vista to retrieve and change this information so that i may access it from an outside source comp. I have shutoff firewalls etc everything to see if it would go away and no matter what i do its there so its a setting on my computer but dont know where in vista, anyone?????

Yes I have, i believe that it is asking for the root user name and password rather than the administrative one which is the cover for vista... quetion is basically how do i retrieve that user name in vista without having to reformat my entire harddrive.

It should be asking for the password as set up by Apache. SO, your configuration of Apache will allow you to set the username and password.
