Recovering IE7 Favorites folder

Hello all,

After a lengthy service call to Dell it was decided to create a new user on my laptop - apparently files were corrupted under the old user-id and were causing problems. After the files were transferred to the new user-id the old files were deleted. Unfortunately I misunderstood the process and didn't realize that all my old favorites also got deleted instead of being copied to the new user.

As you can guess, I'm hoping that there is some way to restore the favorites from drive D: or elsewhere.

Can anyone help??

Hi Rich, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You can look to see if the C:\Users\(Old User Name)\Favorites folder is still there by chance. Sometimes when you delete an account from User Accounts in the Control Panel this is stil left there even when the account is no listed in User Accounts. If not, then they are pretty much gone.

Thank you Brink,

The file was where you stated it to be and I successfully copied it to the new user account. There were a great many links that I am glad to have back. Now if only all my old e-mail messages hadn't gotten lost too. :cry:

Also, thanks for changing my user name - I hadn't realized it had all that extra stuff attached.

You might see if they are still here:
NOTE: Appdata is a hidden system file folder. You will need to have Show hidden files and folders dotted in Folder Options to see it.

C:\Users\(Old User Name)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Local Folders

You can use the Import option to import these from this Local Folder location into you new user account's Windows Mail. Option Two will show you how to in this tutorial.
