Internet Explorer 32bit not working

I have a problem with Internet Explorer 32 on my Vista Home Premium 64 system. As a result I have run sfc /scannow and it indicates that I have some corrupt sytem files that it cannot repair. However when I check the cbs.log I cannot find any record of these corrupt files. I tried using repair from the Vista installation disk but the only options seem to be to repair the boot up, restore to a system restore point or from a complete backup. Internet Explorer 64 works fine but cannot handle flash files which I need to be able to access. I can use Firefox but prefer to be using IE.

Can anyone suggest another way of solving this problem.

Download and install ie7 from ms and reinstall this way.

Does this work? Can you download a full Installation file and reinstall? I'm sure I've tried that and it say's that I already have IE7 installed and just stops the installation.

I have tried downloading and installing ie7 but I get the message "Internet Explorer 7 is not supported on this operating system". Internet Explorer reset is interesting. When I do that, the first time I try running the 32 bit version it works fine but the next time I try it I get the "Internet Explorer has stopped working" error. It would seem that something happens the first time it is run after reset that causes the problem.

The Repair Install has a warning that says it will not work if SP1 is installed. As I have automatic updates turned on I assume this will be the case for me.

I have looked through the list of installed updates and none of them are listed as SP1. However, I have another problem. My copy of Vista is an oem version and I don't think that allows for a Update install which, as I understand it is what I need to do for a repair install.

The Vista SP1 will be listed as Service Pack for Microsoft Windows (KB936330) in Programs and Features View installed updates if you have it installed.

If you do not have a Recovery DVD and have a Express DVD instead, then you will be able to.

Hi guys,

I have the same problem with my Vista x64 ultimate. Suddenly I have discovered that my 32bit version of Internet Explorer doesn´t work... I don´t know what I did wrong. I tried to install the IE7 from MS site and I get the error message about not supported on that operation system... Another I tried reset the IE7 but witout any success:cry:
The Recovery console probably I can not use because I have already installed SP1.
Anybody have some reason? Thnak you.

thank you for your feedback. Ihave tried everything what is here described but no success. All addons has beed uninstalled and I did IE reset. Only x64 version of IE has been restarted. I had not problem with my vista x64 before and I think is the best OS.

Interesting is it does´t give me any special error message about non functionality. I have just double click on my IE7 32bit. Explorer is launching immediately I can see for a while moment just contour of IE7 window and then IE is closed. I do not see any error message. Nothig is running is the Task manager.

My explorer 32 bit has eventually fixed itself. Not sure whether it was installing SP1 or whether it was an update that came through around the same time but suddenly it is working again. It can be a bit sluggish compared with the 64 bit version but it does work.
