Vista keeps asking me for Username/Password

I have a problem with my Vista 64 setup. Every 2 days or so, as I am starting the Internet explorer up, I keep getting asked for my user name and password. Once having put the details in and I tell the computer to remember via the password button, it asks me for them again. Why is this happening as I never had this issue with XP:confused:

Strange... That's not a default behavior that I'm aware of... Also, you'd think that you'd have to authenticate every session instead of every couple days.


Open explorer - Tools - Options - Security Tab - Custom - Scroll down near the bottom, and you should see the Password options. If that is unchecked, then it may be another program asking for this information, most likely your Firewall or Security built into your Anti-Virus program. If it's none of the above, I would be *very* concerned and run an immediate spyware/virus/trojan scan.

Scotteq could it be possible that splisy is running as a standard user and UAC is setup to have any standard user to prompt for admin credentials but it keeps prompting because the passwords do not match?

I don't *think* so - If that were the case, he'd have to log in every session, right?? Every time he shut the browser off, the session would be killed. So when he starts it up again he'd get prompted for his password.

He said 'every couple days', instead of something like "Every time I try to connect", yah?? That has me suspicious, to be honest. Is it possible to do that every user log in, instead of browser session?? I know I don't remember XP working like that. I'm at work ATM, on an XP machine, so I can't check straight off. I'll poke around after I get home, tho...

I'm leaning towards your idea of Browser hijack, to be honest... 'Every Couple Days' doesn't sit right with me. There should be an identifiable system event - Start the Browser, etc...

Well I have the answer.....

I decided that I would do a complete fresh installation of Vista. Having reinstalled Vista,drivers and programs etc, guess what? Yes it started asking me for username and passwords. None of the info that had been generated during the installation worked, so I rang my internet provider Sky. They informed me of the username and password I required, which was never sent to me and apparently it is a problem with the Sagem modem that they provide.
So everthing seems ok................at the moment, Till the next disaster, I would like to thank you all for your assistance in helping me with my problem
